Announcing the first research workshop Fast Forward2: Women in Photography, funded with The Leverhulme Trust International Network Grant
The first in a series of International workshops funded by the Leverhulme Trust International Network and part of the Fast Forward 2: Women in Photography project is hosted by
Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil
on July 24th and 25th 2017.
Working in collaboration with Dr. Patricia Azevedo (UFMG, Brazil) Professor Anna Fox and Maria Kapajeva, from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA, UK), have organized the first research workshop bringing together both significant and early career professionals from the fields of photography, art and gender studies. Presentations and open discussion will take place over the two-day workshop around ideas and themes concerned with the work and position of women photographers today. This workshop in Brazil will be an opportunity for local, national and international participants to exchange knowledge and promote future collaborations. The workshop is timed to take place at the same time as FIF-BH International Photography Festival of Belo Horizonte creating the opportunity to discover the wealth of photographic culture in the region.
Fast Forward 2, international network, will be investigating the subject of women photographers across the globe. The project involves seven partner organisations who will host six research workshops as well as a conference, in 2019, at a major London venue. The activities of Fast Forward 2 mark the start of a thought provoking exploration of women photographers and their work that is extremely pertinent to the current period where questions connected to women’s lives and how they are being lived, are being raised on a daily basis in a wide range of contexts.
