Job: Photo London – Catalogue Editor

Catalogue Editor (short term, freelance contract)

The Photo London catalogue is a high quality, 300-page publication published in April, shortly before the Fair launches in mid-May. It features full colour spreads from over 90 international galleries, publishers and artists including commissioned introductory essays and texts. There are also a number of advertisements from partners, sponsors and commercial entities.

The Catalogue Editor will work closely with the Directors and members of the Photo London team responsible for gallery development, marketing and communications and Photo London’s public programme which includes major exhibitions and installations. The Editor will be required to gather, edit and bring to publication a professional catalogue of an extremely high standard.

The key responsibilities will be:

  1. Scheduling – agreeing a production timetable and ensuring that deadlines are met
  2. Agreeing a pagination for the publication
  3. Liaising with the graphic design agency
  4. Liaising with developers and communications team to ensure the smooth transition of gallery texts and images from the website to the catalogue format
  5. Co-ordinating a diverse group of contributors including advertisers, commissioned writers, curators and artists
  6. Copy chasing and editing in accordance with the Photo London house style
  7. Writing short texts including captions for artworks
  8. Ensuring that the agreed pagination is maintained by cutting overmatter (in liaison with individual writers)
  9. Proof reading and preparation for print publication

Key Skills:

High level of literacy with experience of cultural terminology an advantage

Proven editorial skills with print publication

IT proficiency

Timeline management and the ability to meet tight deadlines
