Job overview
We are seeking to appoint an online tutor to provide academic support to students on a new MA in Photography. This is an innovative, chiefly online course from Falmouth University launching in September 2016 (see http://flexible.falmouth.ac.uk/courses/ma-photography.htm).
Online Tutors play a central role in the academic quality and vibrancy of the courses and will act as the first point of academic contact for online students within the programmes. As such, the tutors need to combine skills in online moderation and facilitation, subject knowledge, a helpful and empathetic student-facing disposition, the ability to write and communicate online in a concise, clear manner, and a high degree of digital literacy.
The online modules are chiefly asynchronous (conducted over time rather than live), so the Online Tutors will be expected to log in and tend to the activities in the modules at multiple points during the day and week.
Tutors will be subject experts in the broad academic domains of the courses, with either a postgraduate degree in a relevant area or equivalent industry experience as a practitioner. They will work online with groups of up to thirty students over the course of 15-week online modules (three per year). It is estimated that each group of thirty students will take approximately ten hours per week to support, and tutors may choose to take on more than one group of students at any time as course numbers grow.
This is flexible work which would suit subject experts looking to supplement their skills and earnings in an academic career or to complement their role in industry with rewarding work nurturing students from around the world. Full training will be given on how to communicate with students via the innovative online learning platform and via web conferencing tools.
Please note that we are unable to offer Tier 2 sponsorship for this role.
