Photoworks Annual Issue 23: The politics of fashion and style photography
Launching Autumn 2016, the next issue of our annual photography and visual culture journal will be themed on the politics of fashion and style photography.Every day we’re surrounded by fashion images and the ubiquity of our chosen theme will allow us to publish folios addressing a wide range of pertinent issues. These might include: representations of the body, gender and sexuality; the subversion of social and cultural norms; relationships between fashion and history; photography’s function with the fashion business; the politics of sub-cultures, uniforms and tribes. Can fashion photography probe socio-political issues? The Editors welcome new or previously unpublished (in print), fully resolved projects from UK and international artists at any stage of their career. Four folios will be selected for publication in Photoworks Annual A high-profile writer will be commissioned to produce an essay exploring the four selected folios. In addition to folios selected for print publication, a number of short-listed entries will be selected for online publication.
