The School

The School of Arts and Creative Industries at Edinburgh Napier is highly recognised for our leading courses in design, media and performance, producing the next generation of creative practitioners. Core to research development is building our approaches to practice-led research across the disciplines within the School.

The role

We are seeking to add to our professorial team by employing a highly motivated individual with a combination of outstanding practice-led research in an area of specialism within the School, income generation, and leadership skills. Candidates will share our commitment to developing creative practice-led research and will be committed to supporting the development of the School’s research profile, developing and mentoring colleagues and providing leadership across the School.

You will be required to conduct individual and collaborative research projects, contributing to the research profile within the School, leading to the production of high quality research outputs/outcomes for REF 2020 and beyond. You will be able to support practice-led as well as more traditional forms of research activity both within your own specialism and also across the School. You will be able to identify, pursue and secure income streams to help support the work of the School. The ability to develop strong external partnerships with industry or academic partners is crucial. You will be responsible for developing, designing and delivering teaching (home and overseas) and student centred learning underpinned by academic scholarship and professional practice, within your assigned area, contributing to the University’s objective of growing our academic reputation for research-informed student learning.

You must be ambitious and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary working and be committed to working collaboratively across the University.  You will be required to work independently and as part of a team, supporting and leading others. You will have excellent communication skills and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, engage and inspire others.
 
You must have:

  • Qualification in a relevant area at least to postgraduate level (ideally a PhD)
  • Evidence of a professional, academic and research profile alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in specialism to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes
