Reporting to the Technical & Facilities Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to provide instruction and support to students who are using equipment and facilities which will include advice on the safe and appropriate use of technical equipment, maintenance and minor repairs to equipment and technical facilities. You will need specific experience in the Moving Image field having used film and digital cameras and digital post-production software as well as associated audio skills. You will be responsible for developing a technical curriculum in collaboration with the Technical & Facilities Manager and relevant academic colleagues to provide students with the skills to produce moving image projects ranging from the simple to the complex and experimental including time-lapse and animation. In addition you will need to be IT literate and confident in dealing with both academic staff and students. We are looking for a customer focused individual with excellent communication skills – key to this role is the ability to engage with students.
You will need to be self-motivated and capable of working unsupervised, using skill and initiative to manage technical issues as they arise.
You will be required to provide demonstrations to students, teaching staff and external customers. A knowledge of electrical/electronics and computer networking would be beneficial but is not essential. You will have experience of working within a technical photographic environment and ideally have a flair for maintaining and repairing technical equipment.
Health & Safety is a key focus and us such you will be required to adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times, also when appropriate and necessary, to both challenge and guide all users of our service to ensure their compliance in this regard. You will be expected to undertake a range of training courses including a First Aid at Work course and Fire Marshal training.
You will be required to work collaboratively with other members of the technical team; a flexible approach is a must as you will be required to cover work colleagues during busy periods or absences. On occasion, this may mean working additional or varied working hours.
