On 11 December 2020, more than 300 Nigerian students were released a week after being kidnapped from the State School of Science and Technology in the village of Kankara, Katsina State, in the north-west of the country. When these children returned home; they were confronted with ongoing post-traumatic stress disorder with associated psychological problems, along with their long-awaited families.

In this book, Some of You Killed Luisa, published earlier this year by Italian photographer Valeria Cerci, she recalls the dark history of nearly 200 people who were kidnapped for ransom in Sardinia, Italy, from the 1960s to the 1990s. Based on Cerci’s previous years of fieldwork, archival research and interaction with the local community in Sardinia, Italy, using photographs taken in the field, video stills and her research notes, the kidnappings are linked to her observations of family, society and memory in a sample photographic book that combines crime investigation and anthropological research.
