Olga Ignatovich: In the Shadows of the Big Brother is a unique photobook that showcases the legacy of Olga Ignatovich, one of seven female photojournalists who covered World War Il from the Soviet Union’s perspective. The book is based on Olga Ignatovich’s recently discovered archive of frontline negatives, which had long been considered lost forever.
Olga Ignatovich photographed the war from its first days to its last. The book includes more than 250 photographs, including pictures of Kalinin Front fighter pilots, the liberation of Rzhev, the Red Army’s advance to the West under the command of Marshals Zhukov and Konev, the liberation of Poland, combat in Germany, the meeting between Konev and Bradley and the post-war reconstruction of Austria, among other subjects. Of particular significance are the photographs that Olga Ignatovich took during the Red Army’s liberation of the German death camps Majdanek and Auschwitz. Her photographs of the Auschwitz death camp were included in the Nuremberg trials materials.
