In some cultures, particularly in Latin America, ruda is considered an abortifacient plant, although it is not recognized as such in conventional medicine. Because of its abortifacient potential and medicinal properties, ruda is often associated with struggles for sexual and reproductive rights, and can be seen as a symbol of the fight for the right to safe and legal abortion. 19 April 2023, Xochimilco, Cuidad de Mexico
