The ninth edition of our international conference series takes up Seb Chan’s plea for a critical and value-oriented examination of museum technologies. Under the guiding question “What is technology for?”, The Art Museum in the Digital Age – 2027 invites you to re-determine the role of the art museum in a society shaped by AI. Museums can be trustworthy knowledge institutions and places for public debate. At the same time, the question arises as to how they participate in shaping technological futures and what values they want to represent. The conference invites you to discuss current museum developments from different disciplinary perspectives. Contributions can be based on the following topics:
- Museums as spaces of trust in an AI-driven society
- Data sovereignty and strategies
- From Digitalization to AI
- Curating and cultural production with AI
- Preservation and archiving in the age of technological systems
- Research, visitor studies and data analysis
- New Approaches to Knowledge, Culture, and the Public Sphere
