Photographer Elaine Constantine will give an MPF artist talk to launch her new photobook, I’m Com’un Home In The Morn’un, published by RRB Photobooks, 2024. In this work Elaine presents her dynamic and full-colour images that capture the northern soul scene of the 1990s.

This event and new publication have been programmed to coincide with her exhibition of the same name, on display at Martin Parr Foundation from 11 JUL to 22 SEPT 2024.

During the talk Elaine will guide you through her acclaimed career, recounting her journey from humble beginnings in Bury through her teenage years influenced by mod culture during Thatcher’s rule. Elaine’s journey navigates unemployment, discovering her passion for American soul music, the local scooter scene and the exhilarating world of all nighters. Elaine recalls the transformative impact of a camera club for the unemployed and an unexpected encounter with authority… all experiences ultimately culminating in her move to London in the 90’s and first commissioned work – shooting Northern Soul nights for the Face Magazine – the images from which are showcased in her I’m Com’un Home In The Morn’un exhibition and book.
