Exhibition Opening – Island Hoping – Christina Dimitriadi

The new photographic work of the Greek-German artist Christina Dimitriadi be shown at the ISLAND HOPING exhibition , presented by the City of Athens Cultural, Sports and Youth Organization, in the Arts Center from 9 November 2018 to 3 February 2019.  An opening event is planned for 8pm on 9th November 2018.

The exhibition is the first individual presentation of the artist in a public institution in Greece and her title is a play on island hopping, where Christina Dimitriadi explores the image and myth of the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean is a geographical entity, but above all an imaginary reality in which the appreciation of beauty and collective spirit is deeply rooted. The Mediterranean is described as a cultural area, but in fact its historical and political reality is different.

In aesthetically structured photographs, islands and rocky islands emerge from the sea, as an undetermined landscape. The rocky shores of the Aegean due to their morphology and harshness awaken ambiguous feelings between optimism, hope and uncertainty. Christina Dimitriadi turns the landscape from hospitable to barren.
