Pretika Menon

Between Acts

Hide and seek, uneven day
A little tap
The eyes a gateway
To a play

A visual exploration of oddities in the banal, when looked at sideways —
whether through an opaque layer, a child’s drawing, or the quiet act of parlor
women reclaiming their spaces. Reality is intact, but slightly bent. Quiet
ruptures in everyday life, suggesting a blurring between observer and
performer, between public and private.

About the Artist

Artist Website

Pretika Menon is a lens based artist based between Mumbai and Goa, India. She has worked as an image maker in culture, fashion and fine art for over a decade.

Born and raised in Madras, South India, her practice is deeply rooted in the post colonial identity, personal histories and gender studies. Her early years were shaped by an immersion in painting, dance, cinema and poetry — disciplines that continue to inform her theatrical visual language. She continues to develop her fine art practice alongside commercial fashion work.

Pretika won the 2023 PhMuseum Women Photographers Grant for Dhon (Two). In February 2024 she received the Umrao Singh Sher Gil Grant for Photography for the 2nd part of her project “Dhon” (Two).
