City Walls, 2011 comprises slides of young women projected onto the walls of various cities in Iran. The city walls had never seen such large-scale images of women before! And it was a cultural taboo. The series combined women and night as two sources of peace in existence.

About the Artist
Artist WebsiteElham Payamani, started studying photography in 2006 . Now she works as a Professor of Photography at the University of Tehran. Her work is generally an exploration of finding and redefining the landscape from a female perspective. In this definition, landscape is not presented as pristine nature but as culture and politics. A landscape that is completely gendered. City Walls was exhibited at the Fajr Art Festival, the Tehran Photo Expo and ” Gedo” exhibition in 2012.
