In late 2024, six women who are in the process of seeking, or have been granted, asylum in the UK came together at Autograph to create artwork about their experiences – and hopes for the future.
They received collaborative mentoring with essential support from Women for Refugee Women. Using photography and film to document their lives, the project aims to amplify women’s often unheard stories through photography and creative storytelling, raising awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of their experiences.
The work they created will now be displayed on a giant digital billboard at one of East London’s busiest roundabouts. Everyone is welcome to join us at this celebratory launch, starting at Autograph’s gallery in Shoreditch. There will be a pop-up display showcasing the multimedia artworks alongside speeches, music and refreshments. Afterwards, we will take a short walk to view the billboard.
This event is part of the programme Putting Ourselves in the Picture 2: Engaging with Industry, in partnership with Women For Refugee Women and Fast Forward: Women in Photography.
