Artists are invited to submit applications to undertake the design and production of artwork/s for a side room on Ward 2 at Milton Keynes University Hospital. The commission is managed for the hospital by Arts for Health, an arts charity based on the hospital site. The artist will liaise with Arts for Health and develop ideas for the artwork through consultation with patients and staff on Ward 2, where the work will be situated.

The commission is for a side room on one of the hospital wards (ward 2, which is an adult short stay) that is used for end of life care, isolation should a patient be particularly susceptible to infection – such as those going through cancer treatment – or secure patients who may have mental health issues. The room at the moment is very clinical, bare and unwelcoming.  We want to use art to transform this into a space where patients can spend time – sometimes for several days or even a week – feeling calm and comfortable.
