Associate Media Editor, London
Nature, the international journal of science, seeks a talented, experienced Associate Media Editor (photography + video) for our London office. You will be part of a dynamic, award-winning London-based team of designers, artists, multimedia editors and science journalists, reporting to the Managing Media Editor in London.
As part of the team, you will:
- Source photography and moving image for Nature. This includes media for multimedia projects, daily online news stories, and the weekly print magazine.
- Edit media such as photographs and short video clips
- Work closely with editors and designers to brainstorm/concept story visualisation through media such as photography and video
- Champion excellence in photography, moving image and scientific visualisation
Essential requirements
- Experience sourcing media for a news-oriented, deadline-driven media outlet
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent
- Knowledge of copyright, licensing and permissions for images on multiple platforms (print, digital, social)
- A passion for visual media as means of conveying the gist of a story, and the ability to interpret media briefs
- Background in science, technology or visual journalism preferred but not essential
- Proven research skills, and comfort sourcing technical and scientific images
- Interest and science, art, and visualisation
- Ease with media editing software such as Photoshop and Final Cut Pro, digital content management systems, MS office
