Engaging Communities in City-making: West Yorkshire-based socially engaged arts practice
In preparation of a book proposal for an edited volume that takes a critical look at engaging community groups in the West Yorkshire area, with a focus on its cities, the editors are holding a one day symposium. This call is aimed at practice-focused researchers who have been active in socially-engaged arts practice. The term ‘arts’ encompasses a range of practices including music, performance, drawing, making, film-making etc. The abstracts should address the ‘Ethics and politics of community-centred urban socially-engaged arts practice’. At the same time notions of place-making, city-making and community voice are critically examined and the ways in which the creative arts can work with communities are evaluated.
