CALL FOR PAPERS

I International Seminar Histories of Photography

Women photographers / Women photographed: photography and gender in Latin America

The Seminar’s goal is to establish an interdisciplinary dialogue among researches from different countries, sharing case studies that will allow the expansion of the repertoire of references about the work of female photographers as well as the photographic representation of femaleness. Its intent is to create possibilities for a better understanding of women’s role in the construction of a professional and artistic field for photography in Latin America. Through this dialogue it is expected that space will be created for comparative evaluations and discussion of research methodologies.

The call is open to presentation proposals for this Seminar. Up to eight proposals will be selected to be presented in two sessions of communications on August 31th and September 1st 2017 at the Museum of Contemporary Art of University of São Paulo Auditorium. Each selected presentation will have 15 minutes and will be followed by a debate. This open call is directed to PhD and Masters applicants, and on going or completed researches in general linked to gender in Latin America in its many manifestations. The proposals should be sent as a 200 to 300 words abstract, with title, author’s name, last degree, institutional information and one or more relevant works. They will be selected according to their relevance to the Seminar’s theme, originality and advanced stage of research. The official languages of the event are Portuguese and Spanish, but communications in English will be accepted.

They should be sent no later than July 10th 2017, to the email address eventosmac@usp.br with subject “Woman Seminar CFP”. The selected presentations will be announced until July 15th 2017. Organizing Committee: Helouise Costa (Faculty member MAC USP), Erika Zerwes (Post Doc MAC USP, FAPESP)
