Creative Residency, The Art Station

The Art Station and First Light Festival are joining together to provide a new Creative Residency in 2022. Hosted at The Art Station in Saxmundham, this exciting opportunity offers dedicated space and mentoring plus the opportunity to present work to an audience.

They’re looking for an artist/creative who identifies as coming from minority ethnic, migrant and low income/deprived socio economic background – as well as people in need of international protection. Based locally in East Suffolk coastal, particularly in the areas of Lowestoft and Saxmundham, candidates should be working within the areas of visual art, public art, community/participatory arts, and arts in health.

The residency offers space to develop your own practice over four weeks with mentoring and support from both First Light and The Art Station. You will be working in our large project space with good natural light, power, and plenty of floor space. The expectation is for the artist/creative to be present for a minimum of 25 hours per week.

The final week of the residency will include engagement with an audience via any of the following: a work in progress exhibition, workshop sessions, a talk or other appropriate interaction which would be promoted and supported by The Art Station and First Light.

They particularly encourage artists who work with the themes of time, the elements and the coastal environment – or who’s work particularly resonates with these topics.
