International Open Call For Artists and Writers of Colour

Location: Lungs Project
North East of England

Lungs Project is a non-profit curatorial collective and publication founded in 2016. The Lungs Project are now accepting submissions from artists, illustrators, designers, filmmakers, photographers, poets and writers of colour in early stages of their career.

Based in the North East of England, the project focuses on facilitating artistic development and network growth by merging visual arts, design, crafts, and literature to create a collaborative dialogue between various disciplines and to connect early career artists with new opportunities. As an independent initiative, Lungs Project aims to foster and disseminate critical thought and experimental methodologies through publishing and curating exhibitions.

This open call is aimed at a wide range of emerging contemporary artists and writers of colour internationally. In our third issue, we wish to explore the social and political implications of identity. The theme for our third issue is Poly Voices.

The specifics of the theme require works which critically reflect on, comment and interpret our social reality today. Our goal is to interrogate this reality, and its multi-layered intersections such as gender, sex, origins, class, political orientation, and religion. We want to look at how contemporary artists of colour thematise the issues surrounding social identity. It is essential that you concisely present yourself and ideas so we can get a broader picture of your practice. We are open to various forms of creative practices from visual arts to illustration, from filmmaking to fiction.
