Job: Professor in Photography Research

The School of Arts, Design and Architecture (ARTS) is an institution of higher education for design, media, architecture, motion picture, art education and art. TENURE TRACK OR TENURED PROFESSORSHIP IN PHOTOGRAPHY RESEARCH

The position can be filled in Associate or Full level of the Aalto University Tenure Track system, and will commence in autumn 2018.

Job description

The position is shared between the department of Media as well as the department of Art and the department of Film, Television and Scenography.

The successful candidate will be expected to, in addition to conducting his/her own research work,

– take responsibility for the doctoral level studies in Photography (department of Media)

– teach within the master’s program in Photography (department of Media)

– take responsibility for teaching of students, advising and supervision of doctoral students, especially those who work with photography as a specific field or its application in multidisciplinary contexts

– develop the field of photography as a member of the academic community.

Requirements

It is expected that the successful candidate will have broad theoretical, practical and artistic knowledge and skills in the field in order to work successfully within an art and design based academic community. The position requires a doctoral degree, understanding of practice based research as well as a multi-disciplinary approach and professional skills relevant and necessary for the development of the field. Excellent skills in English are required.

The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their merits in research, teaching, academic leadership, as well as artistic experience in the field of contemporary art photography.

Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.
