The selected artist will be offered free accommodation in the five star Lucy Hotel in Kavala. In addition to that the artist’s return trip from his/her country of residence is covered, as well as three meals a day at the hotel premises. Furthermore a per diem and an artist fee for the production of one artwork will be provided. Opportunities to meet with local art organisations and members of the community will be encouraged. During the Lucy Artist Residency Talks weekend, the artist will meet with Jurors in person and will have the time to discuss their praxis with them at length.
The goal of the program is to provide artists with free time. Time to think, to experiment, to finish that book that remains unread for months, to listen to music, to untangle complicated thoughts. It’s also an opportunity to interact, to communicate with the people and the city of Kavala. There is no requirement to produce during their stay and no final outcome is expected. The only exception a public talk in a cultural centre in the city that the artist will participate in. Furthermore the artist will be commisioned to produce one new artwork within six months after the end of their program, inspired by their time in Kavala that will become part of the archive of the residency, and be in public display freely accessible to all.
