RPS Joan Wakelin Bursary

2024 Recipient: Myah Asha Jeffers

The Joan Wakelin Bursary was first set up in 2005 to remember distinguished documentary photographer and Honorary Fellow of The Society, Joan Wakelin, who died in 2003.

The Bursary is administered by the Society in partnership with The Guardian and offers £2000 for the production of an overseas photographic essay on a social documentary issue.

In addition Metro Imaging will also offer to print a portfolio of images of a single series or a series edit up to 12 16×12” Ctypes.

By its nature, the Bursary is intended to fund new projects and support for ongoing projects will not be considered. The Bursary will be awarded to an individual, not to a group or partnership. The Bursary does not support projects requiring travel to, or within, war zones. Your work will be published by the RPS and the Guardian and they will be looking for an applicant who has a clear idea of where and how they will use their images to get their messages across to as wide an audience as possible.
