Senior Lecturer in Photography

University of Salford – School of Arts & Media

The School of Arts & Media is one of the leading centres for practice-based education in the creative disciplines in the North West. We offer research-informed specialist programmes which benefit from close relationships with the cultural industries. Our strengths include interdisciplinary and international projects, many of which are focused at MediaCityUK, a world class facility on a campus dedicated to creativity in all its forms and in close proximity to the Lowry and Imperial War Museum.

The School’s portfolio brings together arts and humanities based disciplines with a comprehensive range of subjects including Animation; Creative Writing; Computer and Video Games; English and Film; English Language; English Literature; Fashion Design; Fine Art; Graphic Design; Interior Design; Media Technology; Music; Performance; Photography; Politics, Contemporary History and Security Studies; Interior Design; and TV and Radio. Our activities are organised into seven Directorates: Art & Design, Digital Design, Broadcast Media, Music & Dance, Journalism, English & Political Contemporary History, Performance & Film Studies.

This is an exciting time to join the School as we plan our teaching and research agenda for the next five years, move into a bespoke building and realise major investment in internationalisation, with established partnerships in East and South East Asia and North America.

BA(Hons) Photography and BA(Hons) Photography with Industry Placement sits within the Art & Design Directorate alongside other creative programmes: Design, Interior Design, Fashion Image Making & Styling, Fashion Design, Film & TV Set Design and Visual Arts. BA (Hons) Photography with Industry Placement is currently in its first year of delivery as part of a University wide pilot project accepting, at present, only a small number of high calibre candidates but there is potential to develop this further.

The post offers a fantastic career opportunity to an academic professional with the desire to fully explore innovation and potential opportunities presented by contemporary photographic practice, and the capability to lead a committed programme team.
