The Role
Forward-looking. Focused. Visionary. Kingston University is yours to inspire. You will join the new Department of Film and Photography and help shape the futures of emerging, talented photographers. You will have significant management responsibilities, be able to undertake course re-design and devise partnership initiatives with industry and other universities to consolidate Kingston as one of the UK’s most vibrant photography programmes. Alongside contributing to the culture of photography and the still and moving image at Kingston, you will be interested in developing your leadership role, be research and/or practice active and interested in supervising PhD students within photography and photo-related practice areas.
The Person
You may be currently working with the professional world of photography and looking to make a move into academia, or have a background rooted in academia with industry-based photography experience. You will bring to the role significant production experience in both analogue and digital photography. You will have an excellent grasp of the breadth of the photography industry and the multiple directions our students will move into post graduation. Excellent administrative and organisational skills, plus a good contact book to enrich the studies and progression of Kingston’s diverse range of students are essential.
You will be joining the newly formed Department of Film & Photography which has ambitious plans around enhancing the portfolio and deepening Kingston’s photo-based research and industry partnerships. The successful applicant will have strong photographic production skills (both analogue and digital) and their specialism could be in documentary, editorial, fashion or advertising. The post holder will have experience of course delivery and an understanding of academic standards and management experience within Higher or Further Education. The successful applicant will also have experience of harnessing web and social-media platforms in the promotion of photographic work. The role includes taking on leadership responsibilities and teaching practice within our BA and MA Photography programmes. The successful applicant will be a team player, have strong administrative skills and be ready to undertake an active and innovative role in student recruitment. This post will play a key role in shaping the new Department’s future.
Staff are expected to either be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or apply to be an FHEA as well as having significant teaching experience within Higher Education.
