Teaching Fellow (Grade 8) or Senior Teaching Fellow (Grade 9) in Digital Media Arts

The University for the Creative Arts are looking for creatives, designers and educators to join them at the Institute of Creativity and Innovation (ICI), a dual-degree institute founded by Xiamen University (XMU) and the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in 2020.

The Digital Media Arts department prepares students for emerging opportunities in the field of New Media. Students range in their specific artistic interests, but share a desire to explore the world and express themselves through new technologies. Modules cover both technical training and theoretical underpinnings, facilitating students as they develop into well-rounded digital artists, with practical skills as well as an understanding of the critical frameworks of their mediums. The department hosts a wide range of state of the art equipment, along with photography and computer studios. A successful candidate will be part of further developing these facilities.

The modules cover many aspects of this broad discipline, from digital photography and filmmaking, through sound and computer art, to image manipulation and editing, so a candidate with strong and varied technical skills is desired. They are also looking for a candidate who understands the challenges of introducing students to independent learning, and focuses on student creativity as a core aspect of their pedagogy.

The right candidates will hold a higher degree in Digital Art, New Media or a related discipline, along with a teaching qualification or equivalent professional experience with at least two consecutive years of higher education teaching. Active research in the field or ongoing professional practice are considered assets.

ICI is located on XMU’s Zhangzhou campus, which boasts a park-like environment, with mountains to the west, Amoy Bay to the north, and the South China Sea to the east. It’s a short commute to beautiful beaches, or the city of Xiamen, the multicultural centre of South-East China.
