Building on its significant expertise in developing children’s leadership through the arts, Turner Contemporary is now delivering Pioneering Places East Kent, which is funded by Arts Council England, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Kent County Council, Thanet District Council, Canterbury Christ Church University, Artswork, the South East Bridge organisation, and supported by Historic England .
60 children from 2 primary schools in Ramsgate have recruited artists and heritage researchers to work with them. They have collaborated with the Turner Prize winning collective Assemble to create a toolkit which aims to inform planners, decision makers and those in the education and creative sectors about how children can positively contribute to place making. They are learning about artists’ practice and they have created this brief to invite artists to produce a new work for Ramsgate Harbour which will launch in summer 2020. The children will select the artist.
This is a significant opportunity for an artist or artists’ collective to create a new work, with a Production Budget of £60,000 and a fee of £7,000.
