THE CENTER AND ITS MISSION:
Established 30 years ago, the Center for the Study of Women (CSW) is an internationally recognized center for research on women, sexuality, and gender. Its Director provides visionary leadership and support for feminist research in diverse arenas across the UCLA campus. The Director also supervises specific activities promoted by CSW, such as organizing lectures and multiple conferences as well as the day-long annual graduate student research conference, Thinking Gender; distributing endowed travel funds and dissertation prizes; and providing a home base for Research Associates or independent scholars from the region.
The UCLA Center for the Study of Women works towards a world in which education and scholarship are tools for social justice feminism, improving the lives of people of all genders.
