Bringing together artist Charan Singh and poet and activist-scholar Dr Nat Raha and a third speaker to be confirmed, this panel will consider what happens when colonial language is used to categorise queer lives – and what becomes possible when those terms are challenged.
Across photography, poetry, writing and critical research, the speakers examine the enduring legacies of colonialism in the production of queer identity, and the possibilities of storytelling as a form of activism and resistance. Together, they will reflect on the ways that institutions and archives attempt to define whose histories are remembered, and how artistic and literary practices can resist these inherited frameworks or open up other ways of understanding lived experience.
The discussion will last for an hour, with time at the end for a Q+A. This event is part of the programme for Charan Singh: Your Tongue in My Mouth.
