Four Corners is delighted to invite you to the opening of The Partisan Coffee House exhibition, which tells the fascinating story of London’s first socialist coffee house, an ‘anti-espresso’ bar. Founded by social historian Raphael Samuel and cultural theorist Stuart Hall in Soho 1958, the Partisan was the spiritual home of the New Left.
The exhibition features unseen photographs by renowned documentary photographer Roger Mayne, alongside printed material designed by innovative letterpress printer Desmond Jeffery, documents, film clips and other materials.
The exhibition is curated by Mike Berlin, Lecturer in History at Birkbeck, University of London, supported by the Barry Amiel and Norman Melburn trust and Laurie McDowell. In association with the Raphael Samuel History Centre and the Bishopsgate Institute.
Opening: May 4th, 6:30-10pm
