Young Human by ShuShu Sieberns at Foam, Amsterdam

Young Human by ShuShu Sieberns is an ode to queerness and highlights the artist’s complex perspective, coloured by her traditional Russian background, especially in relation to her religious grandmother. The exhibition is enriched with an installation that brings ShuShu’s grandmother’s cozy living room to life. The sheltered atmosphere in Young Human takes the visitor into a personal experience in which the artist tries to bridge the gap between her two great loves.

The intimacy of Young Human offers an in-depth look at the artist’s inner conflict, especially her desire to share the love for her non-binary partner with her grandmother. The films and photos in the exhibition connect these two sides of her existence. ShuShu is an artist who does not limit herself to photography: she uses film, photography, poetry and performance to express her ideas. In Young Human, the various elements are applied to create an experience in which the visitor is included.
